Chapter 16: Images (pp.406-427)

  • By default, images are inline elements(they flow within the surrounding text)
  • In order to center an image, it should be turned into a blocklevel element using the display property with a value of block.
  • The background-repeat property can have four values:
    1. repeatThe background image is repeated both horizontally and vertically.
    2. repeat-x The image is repeated horizontally only.
    3. repeat-y The image is repeated vertically only.
    4. no-repeat
  • The background-attachment property values: (to specify whether a background image should stay in one position or move as the user scrolls up and down the page.)
    1. fixed
    2. scroll
  • background-position -> left top, left center , left bottom, center top,and so on. Or Numeric values.
  • To reduce the number of images your browser has to load, you can create image sprites.

    Chapter 19: “Practical Information” (476-492)

  • Search engine optimization (SEO) -<> is the practice of trying to help your site appear nearer the top of search engine results when people look for the topics that your website covers, using some techniques(On-Page or Off Page).

    In every Webpage there are seven key places where keywords can appear in order to improve its findability:

    1. Page Title. 2. URL / Web Address. 3. Headings. 4. Text.

  • When people coming to your site, you can start analyzing how they find it, what they do when they get there, and where are they coming from.
  • Common Analytics tool -> Google Analytics(free).
  • In order to put your site on the web you will need a domain name and Web hosting(Web servers).
  • File Transfer Protocol(FTP) -> allows you to transfer files from your local computer to your web server. —

  • <video> and <audio> -> used in HTML5 to embed video or audio.
  • controls attribute-> enables the default set of playback controls.
  • The HTML MediaElement API -> provides features to allow you to control video and audio players programmatically.
  • you can add CSS styles; like-> visibility, opacity: 0.5, and display.

Chapter 9: pages 201-206

  • Flash is very popular tool for creating (animations, video, and audio to websites).
  • To create your own Flash movie, you need to purchase the Flash authoring environment from Adobe.
  • a Flash file in the Flash authoring environment extension is .fla.
  • In order to use .fla file on a web page it has to be saved in a different format known as SWF. (It has the .swf file extension.)
  • HTML <object> and <embed>-> to embed the Flash movie in your page.
  • now it is more common to use JavaScript.
  • To view Flash, browsers need to use the Flash Player.
